Fault finding is most of the job

When a circuit trips, the breaker is not the fault, it is the messenger. The work is tracing which accessory, cable or appliance on that circuit is leaking to earth, and that means testing rather than guessing.

It is slow, methodical work and it is the part that separates a repair that holds from one that comes back in a fortnight. A breaker taped in the on position is not a repair, it is a hazard with a deadline.

Sockets, lighting and the ordinary work

Additional sockets so the extension lead can go in the bin, outside sockets and garden lighting, replacing yellowed accessories that have been on the wall since the eighties, downlights that keep failing because the wrong transformer was fitted, and extractor fans that were never wired to run on properly.

None of it is dramatic. All of it is the difference between a house that works and a house full of small daily annoyances.
